‘I don’t believe in magic.’
The young boy said.
The old man smiled.
‘You will, when you see her.’
I still remember where I was sitting when Margaret and I first talked on the phone about her wedding with Gavin. Stanford Shopping Center, in the middle of the mall, I had plopped my pregnant self down on one of those cushy armchairs right in front of the Louis Vuitton Store and we talked and talked about my philosophy (have fun) and her wedding (laid-back and also fun and also at my dream venue) and I remember just going on and on hoping that something I said could convince this intelligent woman that somehow I would be the right choice for her day. I always get my hopes up, no matter how hard I try not to. I’m just not that level-headed.
There are places and spaces that speak to me. Call to me. I am inspired by places more than anything else, especially places with a history. Things that transport me to another time and make me feel new things. Perhaps this is why traveling is so important to me as an artist.
I was so fortunate to be able to do a shoot like this right before our baby was born. We were shooting at this private historic hacienda – and I was so pregnant, but I knew that I had to make that time to create something for myself.
Thankfully also I found an extremely talented and generous and kick-ass group of women who also wanted to make something beautiful with me. I owe them everything for making these images happen.
