The main reason I don’t work well with a shot list is because on a wedding day, all I want to do is photograph the moments. The emotions of the day. I am 100% lost in it.
When I am trying to check things off a list, I lose focus on what really matters. The people who were there with you. The look in your eyes. The quickest embrace or kiss from your dad.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t like to take pictures of the details. All of those small things are a part of your story, and I want to tell your story the best I possibly can.
I’m just saying that my best days are ones where I can take a deep breath and be in those moments with you. Those days fill my heart up, they help me breathe easier.
Valarie + Devon‘s wedding was one of those days. Everything felt right, as the girls poured champagne and Valarie’s mom and aunt and sister kept fighting back the tears, and the guys chased the chickens in the yard.
And Valarie + Devon, they were right where they were supposed to be. There’s something really special about two kids who have stuck together since they were 15. You can tell each of the other’s family has already claimed the other as a son and daughter. And that makes the celebrating all the sweeter.
Valarie + Devon, thank you for trusting me with your moments. Your day has become precious to me, too. Thank you.
