John + Mia and I met this past summer through church and I immediately fell in love with both of them.
I blame it on their sweet Southern charms. Both are so kind and just genuinely thoughtful.
Both originally from Georgia, they relocated to Palo Alto for Mia to begin her graduate studies at Stanford. John is an executive for the amazingly delicious Chick-fil-a.
John + Mia were married on the beach in Jacksonville, Florida not too long ago and they had so many beautiful photos from it…except there weren’t many of the two of them together. What had happened was that their original wedding photographer had become ill before their wedding and so another photographer had to take her place on their day, and though she captured many great candid moments, they didn’t have any portraits that really felt like them. They hadn’t known what to do, where to stand, and shouldn’t we just get back to the guests?
Well, I just couldn’t have that be the end of the story for these sweet people. So when I suggested we do a “day-after” love shoot, John + Mia were really excited about it. And I might have squeeled a bit (A LOT) when I found out Mia had a beautiful Anne Barge wedding gown and that they were down to visit my favorite Apple Orchard, Gizdich Ranch in Watsonville.
Fortunately I also live down the street from a charming local florist, The White Oak Flower Shoppe, who helped me craft a perfect bouquet for this sweet orchard scene with some yellow/red tulips and purple cabbage.
John + Mia wore their own clothes (Mia was barefoot at her wedding but opted for some cowboy boots this time around), and I brought along some of my own vintage picnic baskets + thrift store ottoman to have fun with.
I am so happy how their love shoot turned out, and I didn’t bother to even narrow this blog post down, so get ready for a whole lot of sweet love to fill your eyes this afternoon.
Normally these folding chairs live in our house but I dressed them up with doilies + twine for the occasion. It was so simple but I thought made a great impact.
Hot tip: if you want your couples to have a good time, just fill a carafe full of this amazing fresh pressed apple juice!
This is probably my favorite image below. So classic, simple and striking.
Seriously, Mia. You are fiercely beautiful.
