one of the things i love about jasmine star is the way she continually gives back to other photographers, and constantly encourages others to do the same.
share what you know. even if you’ve only been shooting for 3 months, there is someone out there who has been shooting for 1.
our tendency is to shrink back and say “oh, i have nothing to give, i’m still figuring things out!” and especially because when we put ourselves out there, we open ourselves up for judgment from those who have been doing things longer to say we don’t have what it takes.
but i am finding that when we are simply honest with where we are at, but still willing to give to others of what we do know, the blessings are tenfold.
last week i spent an hour with caitlin. caitlin has a canon rebel xsi, and at first she tried to apologize about it. i tell you what, people, it does not matter how fancy your camera is! what is most important is learning how to use it, and letting it tell the story your eye is seeing.
i loved getting to chat with her about how i got started in this business and how i approach any photography assignment. it was such a fun time to talk about what i love and am absolutely passionate about.
before we left i told her i couldn’t resist snapping a few shots of her. can you imagine this gorgeous girl didn’t want to get behind the camera?!!
caitlin, you are gorgeous!! i can’t wait to see where your photography takes you.
ALSO, friends- I did not want to miss sharing about the most radical event ever to grace the interwebs:
Jasmine Star is shooting a wedding tomorrow in Seattle and the genius minds at Creative Live are broadcasting it LIVE, so you can see her in action. There are still a few hours left of today’s broadcast where Jasmine goes in depth about her preparation and her creative process. And if you can’t tune in live you can purchase the dvd’s of the event here.
check it out. then pay it forward.
xoxo

Great post. I have been wanting to have tips and trick posts on my blogs for beginner photographers but I always stop because I think “Holy Smokes what do I know! No one cares what I have to say!”.Maybe I will get over my insecurities and do it anyway!
Love this Emily!!! Thank you so much for sharing and reminding me that we all have something valuable to share no matter where we are at on our journey. Keep rockin’ it out girl!
